Rescue Mission International (ReMI) is proud to have held a high-level engagement with His Excellency Mr. Dimitri Avraam, the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Belgium in Ghana, Dean of the Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana, and Chairperson of the Southern and Western Africa Regional Committee of the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC).
The meeting, held in Accra, provided a valuable platform to discuss the intersection of youth empowerment, climate justice, and sustainable development as core pillars of ReMI’s mission and Belgium’s global development priorities.
We had the honor of sharing our flagship initiatives with His Excellency, including:
The ReMI Climate Academy Programme
An inclusive and forward-thinking initiative aimed at empowering young people, especially women, indigenous youth, and those from underserved areas—with the skills, knowledge, and tools to take bold climate action. Through training, mentorship, and innovation hubs, the Academy nurtures a new generation of leaders to drive climate resilience and sustainable solutions in their communities.
The Master Plan for Sustainable Development for Urban District Assemblies in Ghana
This comprehensive, community-driven framework is being developed to support local governments in addressing urban environmental challenges and urban climate resilience. It promotes climate-smart planning, sustainable infrastructure, and participatory governance, all aligned with the SDGs and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
Youth Engagement in Climate Justice
A central theme of the conversation was the urgent need to meaningfully engage youth in shaping climate solutions. ReMI emphasized our belief that justice-centered climate action must prioritize the voices and leadership of young people, particularly those from vulnerable and frontline communities. His Excellency reaffirmed this vision, recognizing youth as powerful agents of change.
We are especially grateful that the Consul himself made time to personally welcome our delegation, underscoring the importance of diplomatic support in scaling grassroots impact. His encouragement and willingness to facilitate connections with other diplomatic and development actors reaffirm our shared commitment to inclusive and transformative change.
This engagement is a strong step forward in ReMI’s mission to connect local realities to global action through diplomacy, collaboration, and youth-driven innovation.
Together, we are championing climate justice and building a sustainable future for all.
