A bold and transformative step toward youth empowerment and sustainable agriculture was taken this week in Wa West. Rescue Mission International (ReMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Member of Parliament for Wa West to kick off the One Youth: One Acre Project.
The project is designed to support young farmers in the constituency with land development/preparations, credit inputs, training, and technical guidance. It aims to create meaningful, income-generating opportunities through modern and climate-smart farming methods starting with a focus on soybean cultivation for the 2025 season.
The MoU, signed on the morning of June 13, 2025, outlines a shared commitment to improve rural livelihoods and enhance food production. While the MP will play a key role in community mobilization and oversight, ReMI will take the lead in implementing the project on the ground.
As part of the rollout, ReMI will organize a comprehensive training session for all selected youth beneficiaries on Saturday, June 14 in Wa. The session will cover good agronomic practices, sustainable land use, and farm management strategies tailored to the realities of the local environment.
ReMI’s Commitment
Under the agreement, ReMI will provide:
- Certified soybean seeds
- Demeter MKP fertilizer
- Inoculant for improved crop performance
- Technical training by expert agronomists
- A monitoring team to support and track progress
- Supervision during harvest to ensure quality standards
Based on advice from technical experts, the 2025 farming season will focus entirely on soybean production. The crop is seen as both market-viable and ecologically appropriate for the region’s conditions.
Although this is a pilot phase, the long-term vision is ambitious scaling up to at least 1,000 acres in the crop year, engaging more youth, and creating a strong model for agricultural transformation in Ghana.
Ploughing has already begun, and the energy on the ground is palpable. This is not just a farming project. It’s an investment in the future of rural youth, a step toward resilience, and a model for inclusive development.
The One Youth: One Acre Project represents what is possible when political leadership and grassroots expertise come together with a shared purpose. And with ReMI at the helm of implementation, the path forward looks promising.
